St. Anne Catholic School's love for the arts is celebrated in the Shea Center for Fine Arts and Administration, which gives students a great space to express themselves artistically and musically. All students beginning in PreK 3 through grade 4, students attend Art and Music classes. By the time students reach 5thth grade, students rotate among a selected assortment of electives.
From our youngest Pre-Kindergarten children to our accomplished Junior High students, every Shamrock has the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents on campus.
Art class keeps students' hands and minds engaged by exploring the Elements of Design, Principles of Composition, Periods of Art History, notable artists, and our Catholic faith. Housed in the original St. Anne chapel from the 1930's, the art studio is a beautiful space with a kiln for ceramics and a loom for weaving. The Early Childhood and Elementary art curriculum offers students a wide range of art experiences. The program promotes observational, imagination, and critical thinking skills by giving students hands-on experiences with a variety of materials, like oil pastels, chalk pastels, paint, printmaking, sculpture, and ceramics, to build individual art portfolios. In all grades, students compete in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art Contest. At the Junior High level, students can compete in various on-site and pre-submitted art contests. All student work is displayed at different times during the year, which encourages self confidence, the value of individual creations, and a deeper relationship with God given talents.
The St. Anne Music Program fosters appreciation and love for music. The program expands students’ aural skills and awareness of music history and theory, while suporting musical fluency and literacy. Music class brings opportunities to all students to perform and grow as individuals in various productions throughout the year. Participation in the annual Christmas and International Day programs help expand students’ appreciation for music, provide choral production experiences, and form life-long memories for students and families. The program highlights students as they nurture gifts, grow in confidence, and take risks. Instrument instruction includes drumming, xylophones, recorders, and guitars.
Beginning in third grade, students have the opportunity to sing in the St. Anne Children’s Choir. The students sing for Masses and special events throughout the year. The choir regularly performs for special events in our Archdiocesan community and in Houston.
